History

Hill+Knowlton Strategies Netherlands is part of the international Hill+Knowlton Strategies organisation, which was originally set up in Cleveland, Ohio.
Historie Hill+Knowlton Strategies
It was there that in 1927 John W. Hill opened a public relations agency after having spent eighteen years working as a reporter, editor and financial columnist. When a client in the banking industry went into liquidation during the recession, John Hill brought in Donald Knowlton as a public relations director. Hill+Knowlton Strategies grew rapidly, despite the adverse economic climate. In 1934 the head office was moved to New York.

After the Second World War John Hill’s was one of the first PR agencies in the United States to open an office in Europe. The opening of an office in Paris was the first step in the development of a global network of eighty-seven offices in fifty countries (to date). John Hill continued to attend to the day-to-day running of the organisation until 1962 and remained active until shortly before his death in New York in 1977.

The Netherlands

Hill+Knowlton Strategies Netherlands was set in 1972. The company operated from an office in Catsheuvel in The Hague and quickly gained a foothold in the market. When Hill+Knowlton Strategies was taken over by JWT at the end of the seventies the agency gained an office in Amsterdam. The current parent company WPP separated JWT and Hill+Knowlton Strategies again and the activities in the Netherlands were subsequently consolidated at the Amsterdam office.

In September 2004 Hill+Knowlton Strategies Netherlands opened an office in Europaboulevard (Weerdestein) and in July 2009 an office in The Hague opened, especially equiped in behalf of the Public Affairs team.
